By offering a few helpful suggestions we hope we can help reunite pets with their people quickly and safely .
If you find a pet, don't assume it has been abandoned or abused. Often pets are missing for an extended amount of time and may appear scared and/or abused. Checking for I.D tags and walking him/her around the neighborhood is a good way to find the owner.
If your attempts at locating an owner are unsuccessful, it is best if you can bring the animal to Lake of the Woods Humane Society, if it was found within the county limits, to give the owner a chance to claim their pet. You can always place your name on the animal in case it doesn’t get claimed and you want to adopt it.
If you decide not to bring the pet into the shelter you can provide a picture with information on where the pet was found. Also, using social media like Facebook, Petfinder, local newspapers, posting flyers, and talking with neighbors and nearby businesses can help find owners in search of their lost pet.
