About Us
The Lake of the Woods Humane Society takes in city, county, and surrendered animals for Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota. We are a volunteer run, not-for-profit (501c), located at 501 1st Avenue South, Baudette, Minnesota, along the Canadian border. Because we receive no funding support from national organizations your support directly benefits the adoptable animals in your community.
We are a volunteer run organization, caring people of all ages and backgrounds bound by a common love of animals and their welfare. The Lake of the Woods Humane Society could not achieve its mission without the dedication of volunteers who donate their talent and time. We are always looking for animal-lovers who want to get involved. It's a great way to make a difference and make new friends.
It is our mission to:
Maintain an animal shelter that promotes kindness of animals and provide an environment that is inviting to both people and pets through quality care, professionalism, knowledge, and education.
To provide proper care, sanctuary, and placement of dogs and cats needing forever homes from Lake of the Woods County.
To promote health and respect towards animals to prevent overpopulation and neglect/abuse.
To not euthanize merely because we lack space or because the animal's stay has exceeded a predetermined amount of time.
To develop and maintain a volunteer program that provides for the daily needs of the shelter and the dogs and cats seeking forever homes.
